Sojourn siblings, all
On Raksha Bandhan, we talk to a few brother-sister duos in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: There’s nothing that can beat bonding with your sibling. Someone once said — Loving is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction. And these brothers and sisters are doing just that as they travel around the world and bond. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, we speak to these city-based brothers and sisters on the life-long connection that they share and how travelling together brought them closer.
Ramesh Dembla and Krishika Lulla: They always look forward to their time together, “We are very close to each other and after Krishika got married to Sunil Lulla and moved to Mumbai, we started travelling together to various destinations across the world. We have travelled together to the United States, Europe, Nepal, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Colombo and many other countries. Infact, I came to the US with Akshay Kumar and my sister who was there for some work already, stayed back for me at Los Angeles. It was very sweet of her and we are both having a blast this week. She will be tying Rakhi here this time. We are both very fond of shopping and partying and that’s what we indulge in on our trips together. We’re both crazy shopaholics and retail therapy helps us bond,” reveals Ramesh Dembla, a fashion designer from the city.
Aabha Hanjura and Abhay Hanjura: Aabha of Sufistication loves to travel with her brother Abhay, an entrepreneur who runs his company called Licious. She recalls, “It was because of him that I participated in the Indian Idol and became a singer. We have travelled to many places together, as we have a lot of common friends and we’re one big gang. He’s just a year older and that’s why we have had the same group of friends. Although, he’s more of a friend, he’s very protective and spoils me silly with lavish gifts. Our first fun trip together was to Pondicherry which was great. We’ve been to so many places — Goa, Sri Lanka, Leh and of course Kashmir. We always end up having one major fight on every trip, but then we make up quickly, as can’t stay upset with each other for long.”
Danish and Kubra Sait: “Our first trip together was in 2006, when we hosted a show together on the superstar Virgo and since then I have travelled with my sister to the UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Italy, France, Netherlands and Spain. We usually keep a healthy mix between partying and other things. When Kubra starts to feel like the elder one, we start seeing mountains, palaces and museums. We also have our share of little tiffs on our travels. We fought in Paris and didn’t speak until we came running down the Eiffel Tower. The fight was about work-life balance, where I believe that work is more important and she thinks otherwise,” states Danish Sait, a radio jockey and an emcee.
Anitha Kholay and Arun Kumar: “My younger brother stays in Melbourne and we always meet mid-way on trips. We are doing the royal Caribbean Mariner of the Sea cruise. I’ve travelled with him across Australia and our drive to the 12 Apostles was the best so far as we spoke endlessly about so many things. We’ve also been to Singapore and many cities in India. Earlier, whenever I would travel for shoots, races and rallies, he would always accompany me. Another trip that’s on our bucket list for next year is New Zealand and Queensland,” shares Anitha Kholay, a city based designer and rallyist.
