It’s hair and now! Say goodbye to the chocolate boy, clean shaven look and bring in some stubble fashion. If you’re looking for some guy candy on the ramp, then you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. There’s a steady rise in the trend of beards among male models in the city. While earlier, the runways were ruled by clean shaven chocolate-boy looks, it’s taken a complete turn today, with most male models going in for a bearded look. This trend has been spotted not only in the city but also at most fashion weeks across the country and is the next uber cool way for men. Hot or not? We find out.
Bengaluru boy who won the Mr India title, model Prateik Jain who has been sporting the scruffy hipster look states, “I started sporting a beard since I was into martial arts. As I got a lot of compliments, I haven’t shaved ever since I won Mr World India 2014. I have just won the Asian supermodel where I represented India at the Asian supermodel competition. I’m the first male model from India to win this title. In the past few weeks, I’ve been travelling through Milan, London, Dubai and China and doing campaigns with my bearded look.”
Known for his untamed revolutionary look, Adeem Kirmani, a popular Bengaluru-based male model from Kashmir who has walked the ramp for big designers and has also acted in many commercials, says, “I love this look. It’s always good for men to be masculine and I think a beard helps us to get that masculine edge. The beard has never gone out of fashion from the time human beings have existed. It’s very unfortunate that men these days don’t keep a beard and they want to be clean-shaven. Men should be men. They should not flaunt anything that is not masculine.”
Another Bengaluru-based model who hails from north Karnataka and has been scorching the runways for a while now is Vinod Raibagi who feels, “I feel a full beard brings out a certain character in me. The reaction that I’ve been receiving from everyone is simply crazy. Everyone loves it, especially all the girls. It helps me feel strong and mature. Beards are a huge trend these days amongst guys and they’re only getting better as time goes on. We’re the real gentlemen!”
Giving a thumbs up to the look is fashion guru Prasad Bidapa. He says, “This is the year of the beard. While some models like Vinod Raibagi keep it full-grown, Mr India Arry Dabas chooses to keep it very groomed. The current Mr India Rohit also keeps a beard as does Prateik Jain. I like a groomed beard that is properly contoured and maintained. It can enhance and define a man’s look, but grooming is essential. Some of the models making waves with their beard are Mahmoud Akr, Jitesh Singh, Jitesh Thakur, Mr India 2015 Rohit Khandelwal, Sagar and Arry Dabas.” Going by the trend, beard does maketh these men!
