Art goes live
Top artists have donated impeccable work to help fund the fight against multiple sclerosis
It is very rare to find Thota Vaikuntam, Laxma Goud and other prominent artists in one place and even rarer to find their artwork on sale at the same time. But so was the case at the two-day live art camp over Saturday and Sunday to raise funds for multiple sclerosis patients. From Laxma Goud to Thota Vaikuntam, Fawad Tamkanat, Laxman Aelay, Rajeswara Rao, Surya Prakash and others, Day 1 of the art camp not only saw work of 32 artists on display, but many of them even participated in the live art camp.
“The cost of medication for a multiple sclerosis patient is expensive — four injections and the oral medicine can cost more than Rs 80,000 per month. We wanted to help as many patients as we could through this show and camp,” says Meena Gupta, founder chairperson of MSSI, Hyderabad chapter who collaborated with Amita Talwar from Art for Causes.
Currently, there are close to 64 artworks on sale.
Artwork by Laxma Goud
Two of Laxma Goud’s work was sold minutes after the inauguration. While one corner of the hall housed a head sculpture by Ravinder Reddy, the other housed a rather rare collection of Fawad Tamkanat’s art — Krishna and a woman. “This was part of my old series... at one point I would paint a lot in this style but over the years I stopped. When the organisers of the event spoke to me, they asked for art from this series, so I gave them two pieces,” says the artist.
The first day of the art camp also saw quite a few artists create artworks at the venue. “This will be done on Day 2 as well. Guests are free to come and take a look at the artwork and buy them,” adds Meena.
