What was earlier a popular belief is now even supported by recent research – the potato is one of the most fattening vegetables. Also vegetables like sweetcorn and peas are best avoided if you want to slim down, according to a report published in the Daily Mail.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health analysed detailed dietary information provided by more than 130,000 American men and women for the project. The study participants were weighed regularly and also gave information about their smoking, exercising and TV watching habits.

Experts also suggested that weight-conscious people should opt for brown rice or wholemeal bread as healthier food options. This study was published in the journal PLOS Medicine.
