Having dizzy spells could be an early sign of dementia: study
It could also be a sign of orthostatic hypertension
People who feel faint for several minutes after standing up may go on to develop dementia or Parkinson’s, researchers say. A study carried out by US scientists found that those having dizzy spells after standing up may be at a risk of a blood pressure condition that may eventually lead to a degenerative brain disease or even early death.
The researchers examined the health records of 165 people with an average age of 59 over ten years, according to a report in the Daily Mail. They discovered that the chance of early death rose from 29 per cent to 50 per cent in those who later on developed delayed blood pressure condition to full-blown orthostatic hypertension. Also 31 percent also developed a brain degenerative disease such as Parkinson’s or dementia.
