Already a favourite fashion story in the West, the cape is now making a dramatic entry in India. Capes are being paired with Indianwear for that trendy look.
Designer Ridhi Mehra, who was in Hyderabad last week, had showcased her collection which included capes paired beautifully with Indianwear. “Capes are trending internationally and I have tried to incorporate them in my collection. Youngsters would love to experiment with this look,” she says.
Sonam Kapoor wore an Anamika Khanna outfit where she pulled off the cape look brilliantly.
Capes add a dramatic element in outfits and replace the good old dupatta. “We always have that one additional piece with the outfit that you have to drape. And capes have replaced them. Capes can be in various styles — high-low cape, one that is fitted on the shoulders etc.,” says Ridhi.
And they have been a hit on the runway too. Designer Anju Modi says that it’s all a part of a change. “Fashion has also become a global potpourri of culture, everything is changing. Cape is a very modern way of dressing and it makes for an eclectic look.” Anju adds,“One of the actresses who has carried off the cape look well is Sonam Kapoor.”

Ridhi says styling it is easy, “The cape should fall loosely on a well fitted piece. I think a neckpiece that falls on a cape looks beautiful.”
