All eyes on beautiful blues
The key is to get the colour really intense and dark around the lashes
Spring make-up tends to be limited to bronze skin, glossy lips and soft, pastel eyes, but the beauty on the runway, this season, threw us a few surprises in the form of seriously smoky eye-shadow, vivid red lips and strokes of brilliant colour. It’s official: blue is back! Not in the frosty eye-shadows and candy-coloured nail polishes that were popular in the ’90s — thank goodness. For spring 2016, blue make-up has had a chic makeover. Think sultry navy, vivid cobalt and deep shades of teal. Aquamarine eye-liner was a popular look on the runways of New York Fashion Week, popping up at various shows. The look got edgier when the models walked with cobalt blue lashes that made their eyes pop against their complexions. The theme continued at Milan Fashion Week, with artful flashes of blue shadow on eyelids of models.
The key is to get the colour really intense and dark around the lashes, but then blend it so that the edges become very soft. You can also go for a gorgeous, glittery effect that’s also a bit grungy.
The trick to recreating the navy blue smoky eye is to use eye pencils rather than eye shadow, these are tidier to apply and give a more intense colour. Apply the liner generously around the lash line and then use a soft eye-shadow brush to blend the colour upwards to create a soft focus finish.
