Powerhouse performer Supriya Pathak will soon be back on TV with Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re. While her character Hansaa from Khichdi was a comical one, this one is quite the opposite. “I didn’t want to do something regular and I really hope we don’t do what everybody does. I play a strong character who has gone through a lot in life and fought her own battles — she’s not rebellious but her experiences have toughened her. At the same time, she is vulnerable too.”

Supriya admits that there is little that excites her on TV these days. “I don’t understand why our TV shows are becoming so regressive. TV is a medium that can be used to spread a positive message but people are spreading bogus ideas in people’s minds. I don’t watch any shows but I have been following international series such as The Big Bang Theory, Clue and Modern Family. I would love to be part of any of these if they are recreated in India.”

Would she want to revive Hansaa’s character? “I would love to play Hansaa again if somebody offers me that role. In fact, I have been pleading with the producers of Khichdi to bring that show back.”

On the personal front, recently-released Shandaar, featured three members of her family — husband Pankaj, son Shahid and daughter Sanah Kapoor, for whom it is a debut performance. Despite the film’s poor reception at the box office, she said, “I’m a very proud mother as Sanah has been getting lots of rave reviews. She has done good work and shown herself as a promising actress. She doesn’t need any advice from Pankaj or me, she is capable of making her own decisions.”

While that’s about the daughter, any thoughts on the daughter-in-law, Mira Rajput? “It’s a great feeling. She is just perfect for Shahid,” Supriya says.
