Halloween’s round the corner and social media is cluttered with posts about the spooky parties in town. The partygoers are all geared up with their quirky, scary costumes. With the movie coming out in December, Star Wars definitely seems to be the favourite of the season.
Shiraz Mirza, partner at Olive Bistro where they also have a special menu for Halloween, says, “I will be dressing up as Kylo Ren, the Darth Vader. I ordered the costume online and it’s gone for fittings now. I’m pretty excited for Halloween as it’s the one day when everyone dresses up and has fun.”
Like Shiraz, Anirudh G., a working professional, can’t wait for the movie to release; he is going as Anakin Skywalker. “I already have a light saber so all I need to do is get the robe,” says Anirudh.
Adish Rai, a working professional, says, “I will dress up as Chucky (the possessed doll from the movie Child’s Play) but of course with a fake knife.” Adish, along with his friends, will be heading to Pier 33, where they have a line-up of spooky acts.
While there are a few first timers, there are also many who are “experienced” in the field. Dental student Soumya Sharan, who’s also the chief make-up artist for the Hyderabad Cosplayers Club says, “Halloween brings out the fun side of gruesome. It’s all about blood and gore-ickiness. This year we are planning to reuse our old costumes and ‘zombify’ them. So you’ll see zombified versions of popular comic book characters. This will help us save time and money.”
Shikhar Vishnoi, a student at ISB, has had many fancy costumes for Halloween parties back home in Delhi but this will be his first in Hyderabad. “I’m going simple this time, as a pirate. So I will go out shopping for a white lacy shirt and will wear an eye-patch with big boots. My friend Palak, who will join me, will dress up as a white swan,” he says.
Meanwhile, businesswoman Shruti Sarin talks about how she and her friends select their costumes. “Just a few days before Halloween we get together and pick a chit from a pot. So it could be anything and we don’t leave each other with a choice.”
