Shah Rukh Khan gets vocal on growing religious intolerance
Actor talks about not being hesitant to give up his awards
Mumbai: Bollywood’s iconic star, Shah Rukh Khan, who turns 50 today, voices on growing extreme religious intolerance in the country. The actor also feels that he would not hesitate to give up his awards as a symbolic gesture if he has to.
Shah Rukh, who has hits in a row right from his debut ‘Deewana’ to his last ‘Happy New Year’, believes in growing extreme tolerance. SRK, who has a vast career span of 27 years, thinks religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that one can do as a patriot. He feels that this is the major issue of our nation.
Shah Rukh personally respects those who returned awards but the case is different with him. Actor would not hesitate to give up his awards. Shah Rukh stated that people put words into the air even before thinking and this is a secular country. This is a country perhaps for the last 10 years that is on the cusp of going beyond what we think.
Shah Rukh also reacted over criticism about actors not participating in the protest and raising their voices against growing intolerance. He rightly said that it was tough for him to take a stand on every moral issue. We may talk about freedom of speech, but people come outside my house and throw stones. Putting his views on patriotism, ace actor believes that we will never be a superpower if we are not going to believe that all religions are equal.
