Director Manish Srivastav, who has made the film Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein starring Naseeruddin Shah, had to mortgage his house to make it happen. Manish had directed a film in 2007, titled Go, which had bombed at the box office. He had wanted to do a film with Naseeruddin for the longest time but no producer was willing to invest.

“The film I made in 2007 was a huge flop. The projects that were lined up after that never took off either. I had this script and I was very much convinced about it but there were no producers. So I knew if I had to make this film, I would have to arrange for the funds. I mortgaged my house I was staying in at that time and got around Rs 30 lakh to make the film. I couldn’t afford to pay the actors. We used the money to take care of the production costs until Karan Arora came on board as producer.”

It was a huge gamble. “I had to take the chance,” Manish says. “Now, I have paid the money and the house is not on mortgage anymore. I was just planning to make a film and four to five years just went by. Naseer sir readily agreed and I am very thankful to everyone who supported me for this film.”
