When designer Hitesh Kapopara took on the responsibility of crafting Sunny Leone’s look in Mastizaade, he was aware that he was signing on for twice the responsibility — the actress has a double role. Sunny plays twins Laila (the sexy one) and Lily (the nerd) in the film. Hitesh immediately got down to work, digging up different references for both the looks.

“For Laila’s look, we had Kim Kardashian for inspiration. So the character sports a lot of body hugging dresses; most of which were bought from stores in Los Angeles. The look is very international chic and we picked up some interesting blingy bikinis as well. For one song, we got Sunny to wear a golden dress that weighs more than 15 kg — we’re expecting it to be a hit with fans! Her shoes also create a statement; we sourced them from L.A. and London. Sunny joined me on these trips because she likes to give her inputs,” Hitesh says.

For Lily’s look, the designer knew a more restrained look was required. “Bohemian” and “cute” — as opposed to sexy — were the operative words. Printed shorts and tops from Malaysia, not-so-fancy bikinis with layering and embroidery were the outfits of choice.

Hitesh, who has worked with Sunny since her first B’wood film, tells us that Sunny’s off-screen style is very casual. “She likes wearing ganjis and has a huge collection of hats and caps,” he says.

He is teaming up with Sunny yet again for a music video for T-Series, called Main Supergirl. “Choreographer Ahmed Khan is directing the video and he is very particular about what he wants his artiste’s look to be,” Hitesh says. “He told me to fly to the UK for two-three days before the shoot and get Sunny’s costumes. So we have a Supergirl outfit, a chef’s costume and a police woman’s outfit. She will have around 10 different looks in the video. Fans will love it for sure!”
