Four zebras for Bengaluru, with love from Israel!
It is a special package for Bengaluru being delivered from Tel Aviv, Israel
Bengaluru: It is a special package for Bengaluru being delivered from Tel Aviv, Israel. The gift is a set of four zebras being donated to the Bannerghatta Biological Park by the Tel Aviv zoo. The exotic animals are flying over seven hours in a connecting Lufthansa passenger flight from Tel Aviv to Frankfurt to Bengaluru and will land at the Kempegowda International Airport early on Thursday morning.
“The flight has four one-year-old zebras – two males and two females,” a Lufthansa Air employee, who requested anonymity, told Deccan Chronicle.
The animals are placed in special cages in the cargo hold of the passenger aircraft. “Passenger flights are equipped with provisions for air circulation and temperature maintenance suited for carrying animals in cargo compartments. Unlike horses, zebras can withstand seven hours of flying without being monitored and fed,” he said.
BBP Director Santosh Kumar said, “This is the first time the park is getting zebras. We will quarantine the animals for a month before shifting them to the park for public viewing. Such animal exchanges are common. The countries that have surplus animals ship them to countries where the animals are scare, maintaining an ecological balance. These zebras are a gift from Israel.” The park is also trying to get white lions from Germany, he said.
