Favourite TV show: Orange Is The New Black
My current favourite TV show is Orange Is The New Black. I had an instant liking towards the concept when I had heard about the first time. But now, as I have started watching the show, it grows on me each day. I love it so much because I see myself wanting to play that kind of a character someday. The story is about a teenage girl who is living her life to the fullest but five years down the line she gets arrested because of an unwitting involvement in a drug scam. The show traces her transition from an outsider to a prisoner, as she gets to know the differences between both the worlds.

Favourite play: A Walk In The Woods
A Walk in the Woods with Naseeruddin Shah and Rajit Kapur is absolutely dynamic. You have two seasoned performers who own the characters and the space. Actors like them define the meaning of “stage acting” and both Naseerbhai and Rajit are absolutely fleshed out in their roles as diplomats from Pakistan and India who try to unravel the intricacies of Indo-Pak relations.

Favourite restaurant: Ester, Sydney
While on a trip to New South Wales, I chanced upon a vegetarian restaurant in Sydney for lunch. I was charmed to watch a packed restaurant named “Ester” signifying that people in that part of the world too are taking up vegetarian food. The understated ambience of the restaurant was a testimony to the fact that the food takes precedence over everything else. I tried it out during my trip to Australia in September. Food there was simple and clutter free. The highlight of my meal was the grilled cauliflower with almond sauce and toasted almonds. To all those wanting to try some of the most scrumptious vegetarian delicacies while in Sydney, I strongly recommend a visit to Ester.

Favourite music album: Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
The score of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is one of my all time favourites. Well defined melodies filled with an Indian essence makes all the tracks stand out. Ismail Darbar has done a wonderful job with the background score. The vastness and depth of the sound truly represents the grandeur of Hindi cinema. I still listen to the album every weekend and I draw a lot of inspiration from that album.

Favourite book: Gone With The Wind by
Margaret Mitchell
I read Gone With The Wind eight years ago and since then I have been reading it every year. There are a couple of reasons why I like the book — it is a human story; everybody connected with it, the characters, Scarlett, Melisa, and Ashley Wilkes were such rich characters. Every time I read the book, I stumble on something new about the nuances in characters, poetic phrases, heart-wrenching words, and always Scarlett O’ Hara. Every page makes for a riveting read. The story may be in an American setting but it is as relevant as it can get.

Favourite film: Paprika
There is an animated film called Paprika. I think it’s a 90’s Japanese anime. I have seen Paprika a lot of times and I keep going back to the film. I love Japanese anime, I’m a huge Japanese anime fan, it’s the style and the whimsical quality, the darkness and the animation in most Japanese films that I find very intriguing. I watched it with my girlfriends a couple of weeks ago. It was put on a pen drive by a friend of mine with a bunch of other animated movies and that’s how I discovered it. I love all of Miyazaki’s work.
