Pawan Kalyan’s fans spoiling his name, says Puri Jagannadh

The director talks about the recent incident involving Pawan Kalyan’s fans irritating Prabhas and why stars should rein in their fans.

Director Puri Jagannadh is known for completing his films in record time — whether it’s one with a superstar or a low-budget one. Says Puri, “It’s possible because of pre-planning. I explain the entire story, scenes and how much time it will take for each scene to my team. So everyone works according to that plan. Whenever a decision is to be made, I take it immediately and never prolong it.”

The director is now coming up with Loafer that stars Varun Tej and Disha Patnani as the lead pair. “I met Chiranjeevi and showed him clippings of the film. He spoke about Varun Tej’s performance for nearly 10 minutes and praised him,” says Puri, adding that Varun is a star in the making and has performed better than he had expected.

Talking about Chiranjeevi’s fans reacting angrily when he had said that he was hurt when Chiranjeevi had said that he hadn’t liked the second half of a film, Puri says, “Fans don’t understand my friendship with Chiranjeevi. That issue was over long back and I met him many times after that. I’ll definitely do a film with him. I may miss his 150th one but I would like to work with him for another one and I will wait for it,” he says.

A couple of days back Pawan Kalyan’s fans had upset Prabhas at the audio function of Loafer. Puri says, “Not only Prabhas, even I was irritated. In fact anyone would have been irritated on that day because of the fans. We put so much money in the film and we wanted to talk about it at the audio function. Because of the fans we couldn’t speak properly. We spent a lot of money to organise the event for the promotion of the film, and in the end it should not be wasted.”

So, why can’t stars control their fans? “Who will control these fans? Even if the stars ask, will they listen to them? Pawan Kalyan should tell his fans that they can’t do this kind of nuisance. Because of those fans Pawan Kalyan is getting a bad name. The fans don’t have any common sense and he should tell them through Twitter or some other way to not create any more nuisance,” adds Puri.

Coming back to Loafer, Revathi plays Varun’s mother in the film. “Initially she didn’t want to do this role as she mostly sticks to art films or is busy with her own direction. I narrated the story to her and she agreed. During shooting too she said that she never did these kind of scenes, but she did this film as she believed in me,” says the director.

Puri is also often in the news for different controversies. Do they affect his career? “No, I don’t take controversies seriously, so it never affects my career. If you are in a controversy it means you are working. If there is no controversy you are not working. Even for my family members these controversies have became routine,” says Puri Jagannadh.

Shooting for his next project, Rogue, has already started. “It is a bi-lingual releasing in Kannada and Telugu,” he says. Talking about his son Akash’s debut, he says he has to wait for another three years to make his entry.

Puri Jagannadh always goes to Bangkok to write a story or to complete a script. Asked why he can’t do the same in India, he says, “I need a beach to write my story. Here in India, I can write on the Vizag beach, but people  disturb me a lot. So I go to Bangkok and write sitting at a beach there,” he says.
