A video clip featuring a rare Chinese giant salamander - which could be around 200 years old – has recently emerged after the reptile was discovered when a man accidentally stood on it.
The 1.3m long amphibian was found by a fisherman named Wang Yong in the Chongquing district in southwest China, according to the Unilad. After discovering the enormous creature in a shallow pool in the cave, Yong immediately alerted wildlife experts, who transferred the salamander to a nature preserve.
The experts estimated the age of the ill salamander to be about 200 years old. Known as the largest amphibian in the world, Chinese salamanders can grow up to 5ft 9inches long. Unfortunately they are now on the critically endangered list as they are popularly used in making traditional oriental medicine.
