HEART on your sleeve!

As you wrap up another year in style, why surrender to shapeless sweaters.

Deepika Padukone rocks a full-sleeved Dolci & Gabbana dress at a promotional event.
Picking the perfect dress for New Years Eve is always harder than it looks. What with having to think about the right colour, the right fit and most importantly, something that flatters your natural build rather than plays up your flaws! While sexiness has always been associated with slinky, sleeveless numbers, 2015 has been ‘the year of the long sleeves’. From plunging necklines to barely-there-skirts, they all had one thing in common – long sleeves, a trend that began in 2014 and is predicted to show a strong presence well into 2016. So, we suggest you ditch the bare arms and the discomfort. Opt instead for dresses that cover them up and paint you in a flattering light, this festive season. Because if it’s good enough for Taylor Swift (who has sported the look on many an occasion), it sure is good enough for us.

Deepika Padukone who rocked the trend recently is another prime example. For the promotions of Tamaasha, the actor stepped out in a Dolce & Gabbana rose print number, that sent fashion bloggers and celeb style watchers into a state of frenzied excitement, with everyone wanting to copy the look. The bold, deep red and green long stemmed rose prints formed a stark contrast against a nude background and that’s what made the piece so striking.

“I think it’s elegant and sexy all at the same time. I love the subtlety of it and hope the trend is here to stay,” shares designer, Pranathi Mallaradhya. Apart from solid colours, sheer sleeves too are just as appealing. Taylor Swift, whose every move is documented by street style followers, was photographed leaving her New York apartment in a dainty pale purple lace number. The dress had three-fourth sleeves which the singer had casually rolled up. A pair of nude clogs completed the semi casual look. “I have a lot of customers who are quite uncomfortable with showing their arms. So with this trend, it’s their time to shine. It’s great for the winter, as it keeps you warm but it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the garment itself, which is more important,” says designer Sunaina Ganapathy.
