The selfless spirit of Chennaites during the recent floods inspired two women – music director Bhavatharini and playback singer Shalini Singh to release a musical album titled ‘The Rain Song’ as a tribute, according to various reports.

Vocalist and composer, Bhavatharini, who also happens to be music maestro Illayaraja’s daughter, revealed that she got the idea for the song a week after the floods. Her friend, Shalini Singh, who has sung in more than 5,000 movies, says that they made this song to show how deeply affected they were by the incident.

The four minute video, which is part of a non-commercial album, lauds the spirit of Chennai. It even features a glimpse of maestro Illayaraja.
