Drinking alcohol could kill your heart cells
Regular alcohol consumption may lead to heart failure.
Apparently the list of the ill effects of drinking alcohol keeps on growing. This time, experts have revealed that alcohol is so toxic that it actually kills off your heart cells, according to the Daily Mail.
Doctors say that the condition, known as alcohol-related cardio myopathy, causes the heart muscle to become weak and thin so that it is unable to pump blood around the body, which deprives the tissues of oxygen. This eventually results in shortness of breath, exhaustion, an irregular heartbeat and swelling in the legs and feet. If the case becomes severe, it can even lead to heart failure.
Dr Klaus Witte, a cardiologist at Leeds General Infirmary, points out that though the heart is able to repair itself, regular drinking can cause immense damage to your heart, according to the Daily Mail.
