Chennai: ‘Kuppathotti.com’, an online trash bin which started its business journey six years ago with 100 registered customers, is helping out the busy people of society to dispose of their piled up trash like newspapers, old milk packets, plastics, electronics, metal scrap etc. at their door step. The business has seen a gradual increase over the span of six years and it currently caters to 10,000 customers.

Former IT employee Joseph Jegan, who along with his wife Sujatha conceptualised this online platform, says, “I can give the guarantee that the price is genuine and all the scrap goes to a certified recycling unit”.

With the rapid increase in number of customers each year, they were not able to meet the demands of thousands of customers in the beginning mainly due to lack of resources. Later, Kuppathotti.com provided its subscribers the luxury of collecting trash at a time they specified. But it turned out to be the biggest challenge he had to face.

“The main issue were the timings. Since our concept caters mainly to working people, everyone wants to make their appointments over the weekends. Even with four vehicles doing the rounds, it wasn’t enough” explains Jegan.

Determined not to leave any customer behind, Jegan is all set to launch his scheme “Instant-pick up” where a customer doesn’t have to fix time slots, rather they can dispose the trash immediately after they make an appointment. This will make things easier without clash in timings.

The common issue residents’ face with scrap dealers is an authentic price list for the commodities being given away. While most dealers on the street avoid taking in plastic waste since it doesn’t sell for much, there is no standard price. Jegan makes his business authentic by giving a standard price list for each and every commodity on their website.

“I can give the guarantee that the price is genuine and all the scrap goes to a certified recycling unit. As my business is transparent, the customers choose whether to avail my services or not” Jegan signs off.
