This July, Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India, will wed Radhika Merchant in a lavish wedding. As anticipated, the couple's wedding invitation has made waves in the community and exposed the Ambanis' taste for luxury and custom. Even the invitation itself is impressive. Another orange box, which has an elaborate picture of Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi living in his heart, is housed inside a large golden box. The Vishnu Shloka is seen in circles surrounding the picture. If only there was a free gold coin for every name of the lord, right?
A picture of Vaikuntha, Lord Vishnu's celestial dwelling, is embroidered on the orange box that appears when it is opened. An atmosphere of spiritual significance is created by the calming sound of Vedic mantras filling the air in the background. If only there had been Prasad. Opening the invitation must have been like entering a temple. Could we possibly get some ladoos in digital format? With detachable frames depicting different Hindu deities, the primary invitation card is an artwork unto itself. The elaborate event is made more intimate by a handwritten note from Nita Ambani, the matriarch of the Ambani family. The card's image is captivating to look at because it also has little lights scattered across the scenery. Humorously, a Reddit member said,
"Ek cupboard bhi bhej date, to keep the 'wedding card'," while another remarked, "This card is my entire shaadi budget bro."
But the surprises don't end there. The invitation box also contains a travelling mandir, complete with golden idols and silver plating, as well as a luxurious Pashmina shawl crafted by artisans from Kashmir.
The invitation's overall seamless fusion of spirituality, art, and culture reflects the Ambani family's enduring reverence for their cultural legacy. A passage from the Rigveda that reads, "I am the same as you, you are the same as me, our minds are alike, our words are alike, and our hearts are alike," is printed on the reverse of the invitation. We wish we were Ambanis because that's what Ambanis are. Dreams, huh? If only we could all include shawls and mobile temples in our invites.
The wedding festivities are set to span three days, starting with the Shubh Vivah on July 12, followed by the Shubh Aashirwad on July 13, and concluding with the Mangal Utsav on July 14. The couple's engagement was celebrated with much fanfare earlier this year, and the pre-wedding celebrations have already been equally grand, with international stars like Katy Perry, Diljit Dosanjh, and Rihanna performing at the first event in Jamnagar. Will she be congratulating "Ra-duckie" again?
Let's see what unfolds this time.
The excitement is growing as the wedding day draws near. This wedding is just another example of the extravagant parties that the Ambani and Merchant families are known for. A genuinely wonderful event that will be remembered for its beauty and the sincere uniting of two families with strong traditions and values is what the invitation has set as a high standard. It begs the question of whether the Ambanis will outdo themselves during the wedding ceremonies. All things considered, as they say, "When the Ambanis do it, they do it big," says the alleged ₹3,00,000 invitation itself.
