THEY ARE LOVIN' IT
A success meet was held recently for Alia Bhatt’s and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani (RARKPK) directed by Karan Johar. The lead actors and director answered questions from the media. Here’s a synopsis of what they said: An upbeat Ranveer Singh said, “I’m very grateful I get to be an actor. I’m grateful I get to do this for a living; I get to pursue my passion. If people love it (referring to his films) then sone pe suhaga.”
Talking candidly about his career graph, he said, “I look back at my journey of 12 years and I feel good. I’m happy RARKPK is another feather in my filmography. My purpose in life is to build a body of work that I can look back on and be proud of. From playing Bittu Sharma (in Band Baaja Baaraat) to Rocky Randhawa (RARKPK) it has been an incredible experience. There are ups and downs in life. I’ve always believed the process is the prize itself.”
Elaborating on the ups and downs, he said, “I don’t understand this numbers game too much and I try to remain as detached from it as possible. I focus on the craft, performance and character and do my best to contribute to what is truly a collaborative effort. So, if the film is a success, it is not my own, it’s everybody’s together. The same goes for failure as well. As they say you learn more from your failures than success. I’ve learnt a few things in the past. But at the moment I’m delighted with the love shown towards Rocky.” “After a gap of seven years, I had forgotten what it was like to direct a film,” said Karan Johar. “I do not remember what had happened during Kuch Kuch Hota Hai because we had a situation that required us to leave the country for a month. Then Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham came in the year when Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai came out too, and it was all about them. I was not nominated for any awards and I used to get disturbed.”
Also, he recalled that there were issues during earlier releases. “During Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the moral police were after me. For My Name is Khan there were political issues. When Student of the Year was released Yashji passed away. There was no problem with this film, thank God. This kind of love is a first for me.” On one of the facets of love depicted in the film, Karan noted that Alia’s character says Do pal ki mohabbat zindagi bhar ka saath de sakta hai. “That is the emotion that I wanted to bring out through Dharamji and Shabanaji’s characters.”
Talking about the message of the film, Alia said it was encapsulated in Dharamendra’s words in the movie Ghar toda nahi jaata…rishtey nahi todte. “Your family is always your strength and support,” she added. “This is the same in my life; my whole family, both my mothers (my mom and mom-in-law), my father here and my father up there, my sisters, my brothers, my husband and my friends are my strongest support system.”
