The controversy centers on Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. The actress accused Dhanush of blocking the use of crucial footage from her career-defining film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, while also demanding Rs 10 crore in damages for what he termed as unauthorised usage.
Nayanthara took to Instagram to pen a scathing letter that cast a harsh light on Dhanush’s actions, describing them as “vile” and fueled by “vengeance.” In the letter, she condemned Dhanush for his lack of support, contrasting his privileged entry into cinema with her struggle as a self-made woman with no industry connections. “A well-established actor like you, who had the blessings of a powerful film family, should understand the fight for survival for people like me,” she wrote, emphasizing the disparity in their paths. The actress revealed that her team had spent two years attempting to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush to include clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary. However, she alleged that Dhanush deliberately stalled their efforts.
Nayanthara minced no words in calling out Dhanush’s actions, writing, “The vengeance you have been festering against this film, my partner, and me doesn’t just affect us but also the many people who poured their time and effort into this documentary.” She went on to describe his legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore for three seconds of footage as an “all-time low.” “You questioned the usage of mere behind the scenes visuals, shot on personal devices, that are already publicly available on social media,” she stated. The post ended with a pointed tag to Dhanush and the mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya.”
