Lack of common sense is real intolerance: Sonu on Jet Airways episode
The crew has been suspended for allowing Sonu Nigam to take over the carrier's in-flight announcement system.
Mumbai: Few hours after Jet Airways suspended its cabin crew for allowing Sonu Nigam take over the in-flight announcement system during a flight, the singer called it an ‘act of intolerance.’

In a statement, Sonu expressed that it is nothing less than pushing someone for spreading happiness. He said, “I have witnessed an elaborate fashion show in an aircraft. I have heard of small concerts happening in an aircraft. I have seen pilots and crew members cracking humorous jokes to loosen up passengers in other countries, which is so cool. To suspend crew members for asking me to sing on the address system, when the seat belt signs were off, and no announcements were to be made, is nothing less than punishing someone for spreading happiness.”
He further added, “Pity there’s no one to question such harshness except the media perhaps. Indians, need to loosen up. This act of lack of common sense, according to me, is real intolerance.”
On January 4, passengers on a Jet Airways plane requested Sonu Nigam, who was in the same flight, to sing for them. The singer crooned few popular numbers much to the joy of passengers. Soon, videos of his impromptu mid-air concert were posted by some passengers and they went viral on social media.
However, the episode did not gone well with The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, as they have accused the crew members for allowing a passenger to take over the carrier's in-flight announcement system. They have been taken off flight duty for inquiry and corrective training.
