#MeToo India: Sony Entertainment to drop Anu Malik again
After a slew of #MeToo allegations from women, Anu Malik stepped down from his role as a judge.
Following the intense outrage of several women in the entertainment industry, Sony Entertainment is reportedly reconsidering its decision to reinstate Anu Malik as a judge on the music reality show Indian Idol.
The backlash began last year, when, after a slew of #MeToo allegations from women including singers Sona Mahapatra and Shweta Pandit, Anu Malik stepped down from his role as a judge. He was later reinstated, which led many aggrieved women — including Neha Bhasin — to strongly condemn Sony Entertainment’s decision. After assessing the backlash, the company is now reconsidering.
A source from Indian Idol reveals, “Anu Malik may be shown the door in the next few weeks. They thought the backlash against him had quietly died down. They never anticipated this new rising roar of protest against his return to the show.”
