Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's last outing 'Bajirao Mastani' set the cash registers ringing at the Box Office and even whisked away most of the popular awards this year. Now, if reports are to be believed, the filmmaker is all set to roll his next historical drama based on the life of Alauddin Khilji.

The film will revolve around the ruler of Khilji dynasty, who served from 1296 to 1316. However, it will highlight his obsession with the queen of Mewar, Rani Padmini (famously known as Padmavati).

Prakash Kapadia, scriptwriter of 'Bajirao Mastani', has been roped in for this project, for which a release date of December 15, 2017 has been finalised.

Interestingly, Sanjay had directed an opera titled Padmavati for the prestigious Theatre Du Chatelet, which was staged in Paris and France in 2008.
