Rangeela Raja finally cleared for release
The film was to release last month, but now will release in the month of January,†says our source.
The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has finally overruled the 20 cuts given by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) and handed out a U/A certificate to the controversial Pahlaj Nihalani film, Rangeela Raja, with just three cuts.
Producer Pahlaj had asked for a Parental Guidance certificate which translates into a U/A certificate and hence was accorded three cuts by the FCAT, which had former Chief Justice Manmohan Sarin along with actress Poonam Dhillon on the committee.
“The committee felt that the cuts given by the CBFC were too harsh and hence decided to do away with 17 such cuts, but retained three cuts that were suggested by Prasoon Joshi’s team that viewed the film earlier. The film was to release last month, but now will release in the month of January,” says our source.
Rangeela Raja, starring Govinda in a double role along with Mishika Chourasia, will now release on January 11 2019. Sikandar Bharti has directed the two-hour 42 mintue long film.
Earlier, Pahlaj had cried foul when the CBFC gave him 20 cuts and had even approached the court who directed him to the FCAT. Pahlaj has already lost a few crores of rupees because of the delay in the release and the pre-publicity that was already spent by his team.
