Dileep was arrested in connection with the kidnapping, molestation and conspiracy of a popular Malayalam actress on February 17.

Mumbai: Malayalam actor Dileep, who is currently in Aluva sub-jail in connection with the kidnapping and molestation of a renowned Malayalam actress, finds some support and solace in his mother Sarojam Pillai.

Pillai has written a letter to Kerela Chief Minister Pinayari Vijayan describing her son as an innocent man and someone who is not capable of committing ‘such a crime.’ She has also urged the government to intervene and take the matter in their hands.

The CM’s office has also confirmed receiving a letter from the actor’s mother and, as per media reports, forwarded it to the Chief of Kerela police, Loknath Behera.

Interestingly, news of Pillai’s letter to the CM comes just a day after the victim had written a letter to him complaining against his Cabinet Minister PC George. The aforementioned minister has allegedly raised questions pertaining to the credibility of the attack and has also claimed that Dileep is innocent and has been wrongly accused in this highly publicised case that has made its way to national news and garnered extensive coverage.

On July 10, Kerela police arrested actor Dileep after finding ample evidence against him and booked under nine sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), ranging from criminal conspiracy to gang rape.

Dileep’s custody was also extended by two weeks, following which he moved the Kerela High Court requesting bail that he was denied. He has filed bail petition for a second time.

In the latest bail application, Dileep has claimed that he had no relation whatsoever with the prime accused’ and all of it is a ‘large-scale’ conspiracy by the influential people of film industry, including his former wife and actress Manju Warrier. Although the police has apparently gathered substantial amount of evidence, Dileep maintains his innocence even to this day.

On August 18, the Kerela High Court will be giving its decision on his new bail application.
