In his own admission, if anyone would have told Nakash Aziz when he started nine years ago that he would be rendering his voice for Shah Rukh Khan, he would have laughed it off. But now, having sung the chartbuster song Jabra from the upcoming movie Fan, Nakash is elated. He has sung it in three languages, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

It all started with a phone call from the movie’s music composer Vishal Dadlani, he recalls. “I have been a fan of their (Vishal-Shekhar) music right from my college days,” he says, adding, “The process of making the song itself was great. With Vishal-Shekhar giving the tune and Varun Grover’s lyrics, the song just flows.”

But was it difficult singing for the Telugu version of the song? “On the contrary, it was fun,” he says. However, he adds that the lyricists had to work really hard to get it right as the Hindi version was so well-written.

“Also, YRF and Shah Rukh wanted it to sound very relatable to the local audience. I think we successfully managed to achieve that.”

He has also sung a number for the upcoming Pawan Kalyan-starrer Sardar Gabbar Singh titled Tauba Tauba. Talking about working with the movie’s music director Devi Sri Prasad, he says, “Tauba Tauba is a fun song and working with DSP was an awesome experience.” He also met S.S. Thaman and the two could be collaborating soon, details of which he says they will divulge soon.

Although Jabra is currently garnering all the attention, Nakash is no stranger to success as he has delivered several hit songs including Dhating Naach, Pungi and more recently Selfie Le Le Re, among others.

“The audience has been kind and accepted me. I think it’s because I try to communicate through my music and when I sing I try to mean what I’m singing,” he says modestly.

Nakash has also worked on several projects including Delhi 6, Rockstar and Ranjhanaa among others with musical maestro A.R. Rahman, something that has helped him evolve musically, he says.

“Rahman sir is a man of few words. However, he can give the same song 20 different twists, which gives you an insight into the man’s capabilities,” he says.

After rendering his voice for Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, he now wishes to work with Aamir Khan. “He tends to chose his scripts so carefully. It’s easy to accept a script but to turn it down requires conviction and Aamir seems to have that. I share his drive to do only good work,” he says.
