The 70th National Film Awards winners were announced on Friday, August 16 at New Delhi’s National Media Center recognizing exceptional talent within Indian cinema. Neena Gupta was among Bollywood stars awarded this prestigious accolade as she received Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Uunchai, while Sooraj Barjatya got acclaimed with Best Director for this particular film. Furthermore, Arijit Singh claimed Best Male Playback Singer award having worked on Brahmastra whilst Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukerji earned him Best Film Award under AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects and Gaming).


Winners receive Rs 3 lakh cash prize along with Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) award which has categories like Best Film, Debut Film or Best Director. On the other hand, winners of Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus), including such categories as screenplay music or acting get Rs two lakh.

Notable recipients of Rajat Kamal include Pavan Raj Malhotra for Best Supporting Actor, each earning Rs two lakh. On the other hand, Manoj Bajpayee who got a special mention for Gulmohar will not be awarded money but shall receive a certificate.


The Malayalam-language drama Aattam won this year’s Best Feature Film award whereas Rishab Shetty from South India got recognized with Best Actor. As far as Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh are concerned, they basically share the tag of being the Best Actress.


These awards are meant to honor exceptional contributions made by films and artists certified between 2022 and 2022 where winners will be presented with trophies later in the year by The President of India.
