Vicky Kaushal’s first look as an eternal warrior, Chiranjeevi Parashurama, in Mahavatar, made quite an impression. His bulked-up physique, long hair and beard gave him a fierce appearance. Mahavatar, helmed by Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik, is slated to hit the screens in 2026.
Ahead of Mahavatar, Vicky is all set to play another legendary character. He will reprise the life and times of Sambhaji Maharaj, in his next, Chhava, which releases this December. The actor won critical acclaim for his performances as the revolutionary, Udham Singh in Sardar Udham, and Field Marshal Sam Maneckshaw in Sam Bahadur.
Has Vicky Kaushal become Bollywood’s go-to face for period films? Movie Analyst Girish Wankhade, calls him a master of the genre. “He is a remarkable talent who has constantly showcased his versatility and depth as an actor.
Period dramas have become increasingly popular in contemporary cinema, resonating deeply with audiences. Vicky Kaushal’s striking facial features and compelling screen presence make him exceptionally suited for these roles.”

Film critic Joginder Tuteja says the genre demands a certain physicality. “You need a rugged masculinity for such roles, whether it was Ajay Devgn in Tanaji, Ranveer Singh in Baji Rao or for that matter Ranbir in Shamshera. Yes, given his features Vicky is well suited to period dramas.”
Vicky’s hook step Tauba Tauba from his last, the rom-com Bad Newzz generated more buzz than the film itself. His upcoming slate of films includes Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic romance Love and War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Known for his knack for drama, comedy and romance, the actor is also experimental when it comes to his choice of projects.
“It is truly commendable that an actor of Kaushal’s calibre is choosing to take on these significant roles, as they not only enhance his filmography but also allow him to showcase the full range of his talent,” says Girish Wankhade.
