Kabir Singh, which came out last year, was a commercial hit but it did not go without creating controversy especially owing to some scenes like the slap sequence. Rajkummar Rao, an actor who has played various roles, recently spoke about how difficult it would have been for him to slap women in films. Moreover, if Rajkummar Rao were to take up a role similar to Kabir Singh, he would insist on discussing such scenes at length with the director.
During HT City’s Stars In The City event recently held; Rajkummar Rao was asked about something he could never tolerate doing as an actor. “It would be very hard for me to slap a girl in a scene,” said Rajkumar Rao bluntly while emphasizing he wouldn’t do well having such an act performed on him while shooting movies even if needed.
Rao was asked if he would have played the part in Kabir Singh, to which he responded, “yeah maybe I would’ve had a lot of discussions with my director about this scene.” He furthered that he wouldn’t have necessarily done it unless its existence justified the character’s being in his opinion.
Kabir Singh is a romantic drama starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It is a remake of Vanga's Telugu film Arjun Reddy, which received commercial success but also faced criticism for toxic masculinity.
As for Rajkummar Rao, he is preparing for the release of Stree 2, the much-awaited horror-comedy sequel taking off from 2018’s Street. The movie stars Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana among others while Niren Bhatt has penned down the script and Amar Kaushik calling the shots respectively. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande, Stree 2 is slated to hit theaters on August 15, Independence Day.
The second part happens in Chanderi town after these events, leaving it haunted by a headless monster. The others are Varun Dhawan and Tamannaah Bhatia who will be making cameo appearances in the movie besides having their songs out already.
