PFCI honours actors for their work
The award ceremony was followed by a crash course on animal laws and a workshop on animal welfare.
Chennai: As part of their first annual meet and awards ceremony, Chennai based animal welfare organisation, People for Cattle in India (PFCI) on Sunday honoured actor Vishal and actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar for their work in the sphere of animal activism.
Addressing the gathering, governor of Tamil Nadu Dr K. Rosaiah said that prevention of abuse and oppressive treatment of animals is the need of the hour.
“India’s culture with a rich tradition of love for animals should not be lost due to inhuman act of some cruel people,” he added. Rosaiah also congratulated PFCI for working closely with Tamil Nadu police and Animal Welfare Board of India.
The award ceremony was followed by a crash course on animal laws and a workshop on animal welfare. While Vishal was presented with the face of animal activism-2015 award for endorsing animal causes, Varalakshmi received best celebrity campaigner award for trending the water bowl challenge campaign in social media.
Human society International - India received the most admired NGOs in 2015. Blue Cross of India bagged the best animal initiative award for the water bowl project and best community animal care taker - 2015 was presented to Nisha Singh for feeding hundreds of dogs daily. Surya from SPAAK received the emerging leader animal welfare-2015 award.
