Karthik Subbaraj to direct Prabhudheva?
Kannada actress Samyuktha might be on board.
While Dhanush is geared up to shoot for his first Hollywood project, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir in May, it is rumoured that his project with Karthik Subbaraj has been put on the back burner for a while. According to latest developments, the Jigarthanda director is now set to direct another film before he could start working on Dhanush’s project.
The latest update is that Karthik has approached Prabhudheva for his forthcoming flick. A source in the know tells us, “Talks have been initiated, but it is too early to talk about it.” Also, it was reported that dancer-turned-actress Samyuktha Hegde, who rose to fame with her debut Kannada film, Kirik Party, has been approached for the female lead.
When contacted, Samyuktha was hesitant to divulge more details about the project as she has been facing a backlash for choosing a Tamil film over a Kannada one. “I am not in a position to comment on the Tamil project,” she said. It is said that the actress went on to sign the Tamil film even as her dates were clashing with the ongoing Kannada film, Kaleej Kumar. This move of Samyuktha irked the producers and several Kannadigas. She was trolled and was trending on social media.
However, the producers of Kaleej Kumar have sorted out issues by holding a meeting. She further clarified her stand by posting a message on her Facebook page saying that Kannada will always be her first preference. Her post read, “Kannada is my mother tongue and I respect it immensely. Before judging, please know the truth and understand the situation. Everything you see and listen to on TV isn’t true. And I didn’t give any offensive statements. My language is my love and I don’t need anyone to explain it to me. (sic)”
