Resul achieved what I couldn't: Director Shankar
...says director Shankar at the audio launch of Resul Pookutty's Oru Kadhai Sollatumaa.
At the audio launch of Oscar winner Resul Pookutty’s acting debut film Oru Kadhai Sollatumaa —The Sound Story, directed by Prasad Prabhakar, ace filmmaker Shankar was all praise for the sound specialist. “I have seen pictures and heard of this amazing pooram Festival conducted in Thirissur. When Resul explained the magnitude of the festival, I was taken aback. Imagine 300 artistes performing live traditional instruments of Kerala for three hours amidst 10 lakh people every year... Had I known this earlier, I would have used the scene in one of my earlier films. In fact, for my Anniyan, I had featured the famous Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Music Festival. I went to the festival to get that authentic feel and wanted to capture the live visuals. But, I could not get permission. I am happy Resul took efforts and got permission to shoot live at Thirissur Pooram Festival. Looking at the poster where he holds huge mikes on both the hands, I am reminded of Rajini sir from Enthiran. It’s a significant move by Resul by registering this documentary fiction.”
Adding more, he said, “Resul always prefers to record original sound (feel) at live locations and not restricting himself inside a studio. Vairamuthu sir’s lyrics are
excellent.”
