Santa to play gangster

The successful team of A1- Accused No 1, Santhanam’s super hit film last year, is joining up once again for an action comedy caper. The film went on the floors on Monday. Yes, Santa, director Johnson and ace composer Santhosh Narayanan have joined hands for the second time. Top cinematographer Arthur Wilson has been brought on board too.

Speaking to DC, Johnson says, “This is a gangster movie set in North Chennai. Santa will be seen as a gangster. However, the script is laced with characteristic puns associated with Santhanam’s films. The lead heroine is yet to be finalized. We are looking at a few options.”

On choosing Santhosh Narayanan again, he says, “The script demanded a composer like Santhosh as he is the master of scoring for gangster films. Rerecording is especially crucial for this flick. And Narayanan’s music was one of the strengths of our earlier movie A1.”

A1 was mired in controversy for its alleged projection of women belonging to the Brahmin community in bad light, when the trailer was released. Later, it was found that the makers did it for publicity’s sake. So, is there something up your sleeve for the new film, we ask. Pat comes the director’s reply: “We never planned anything while cutting the trailer of A1 and it so happened that it created a buzz. However, there was nothing in the film. Coming to the new film, yes there will be something special.”
