SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, Baahubali — The Conclusion, will most likely have a release in Karnataka, after Sathyaraj, who plays a key role in the film, issued a statement regretting his controversial remarks on Kannadigas from nine years ago. After Rajamouli reacted to the situation, saying it will not affect the actor, but the entire team, Sathyaraj broke his silence and chose to express his regrets for his alleged remarks. In a video message, Sathyaraj said, “I take this opportunity to extend my sincere regrets on the remarks made by me during Cauvery protests nine years ago.” Recalling how it all started, he stated, “In fact, when the distressing Cauvery water dispute began nine years ago, Tamils in Karnataka were targeted violently and they resolved to ban Tamil films releases there. In a protest meet organised by Tamil film industry, many spoke fiercely on the issue and I was one among them. In retaliation, Kannadigas burnt my effigies in Karnataka. Also, the Kannada film industry organised a meet and they spoke in a furious manner.”

The actor added, “If my words had hurt Kannadigas, I sincerely regret the same. I reiterate that I am not against those who live in my neighbouring state. In the last nine years, 30 of my films, including Baahubali: The Beginning, were released in Karnataka without any problem. I was even approached by many Kannada filmmakers for their films, but due to lack of time, I could not accept them. However, I don’t want thousands of workers who have toiled for the film to suffer because of me. I also have the responsibility to safeguard the  distributors of Baahubali 2. Hence, to ensure a smooth release of the film in Karnataka), that features me in a brief role, I tender my regret. More than being an actor and die as an actor, I want to die as an ardent Tamil, who cares for his people,” Sathyaraj said in an emotional tone. He thanked Rajamouli, Shobu, Prasad and all those film associations who stood by him on this issue. Pro Kannada groups have now decided to allow the release of Baahubali 2 in the state.
