Manisha Yadhav has been lauded for her engrossing performance and her de-glam avatar role in the recently-released, critically-acclaimed film Oru Kuppai Kathai. DC caught up with her for a quick chat when she was in the city for a beauty pageant.

We start off by asking the actress if marriage has had any impact on her career, to which she says, “Not at all! Actresses like Samantha and Anushka Sharma have already disproved this myth. Career-wise, they are doing very well. Similarly, I haven’t had any issues either. In fact, I was offered a film with Prabhu Deva sir a few months ago, but I was unable to take it up because I had met with an accident then. But I am keen on continuing to act, and my husband supports me,” she says.

How does the actress, who’s played some rather diverse characters, go about choosing her roles, we wonder? “I made my debut with the National Award-winning film Vazhakku Enn 18/9 and did films with top filmmakers like Suseendhran sir and Karu Pazhaniappan sir at the beginning of my career. My fourth film, Trisha Illana Nayanthara, catered to young audiences, and I just wanted to give it a shot. That also worked well. I want to do meaty roles with substance. I’m ok with a glamorous role that’s within my comfort zone,” she says.

The actress adds that she has resolved not to do item-numbers after her bitter experience in the sequel to Chennai 28. “When I was approached, I was presented with a different picture. I was told that it was a solid role, but it turned out to be a small one, with just one song. I am not keen on doing item songs in the future.”

Speaking about her latest release, Manisha says, “I was amazed at the kind of reception that OKK got. It was a multidimensional role and I loved the script. The character that I played was not that of a regular heroine. I thank director Kaali Rangasamy and my co-star Dinesh for the memorable role.

The actress reveals that she’s in talks to do a Tamil film and a Telugu one. Official announcements are expected soon.
