Did Bharathiraja take a dig at Rajinikanth about his 'political ambitions'?
RJ Balaji and director Bharathiraja make scathing comments on Rajini's impending decision to enter politics, further fuelling the ongoing drama...
After Thangar Bachchan, Gouthaman and Velmurugan voicing their opinions on Rajini coming to politics, Bharathiraja, who was instrumental in making him a superstar, took a dig at the latter though indirectly, at a book launch function in the city.
At the event, where a book titled Ennai Bramikka Vaittha Prabalangal was released, several celebrities including Bharathiraja were present. Speaking to the huge gathering, he said, “Until recently, the Tamizh Thaai Vazthu (official state song of Tamil Nadu) was being sung at the start of any function here. But these days, it is the National Anthem, which is made to air at the beginning of any event or show, etc.! By pushing Tamil anthems to the back seat, I have a fear that the very essence of Tamil may get lost.”
After a pause, he continued, “Don’t lose your identity as a Tamilian. Anyone can come to TN, be a part of anything, eat merrily with us and have a life. But they cannot aim for the ‘top throne’, which is meant only for someone who belongs to the Tamil soil.” Though he did not mention the Superstar’s name, people who had gathered there were sharp enough to understand, and cheered him wildly!
