Shruti Haasan walks out of Sangamithra!
The actress has opted out of the period project citing date issues and other film and music commitments.
Director Sundar C’s Sangamithra (Tamil-Telugu bilingual), which had its grand opening at the Cannes Film Festival 2017, is Sri Thenandal Films’ mega-budget project, which will be released in two parts. The entire cast of Sangamithra including Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi, Arya alongside Sri Thenandal Films’ Hema Rukmini, were part of the prestigious launch.
The latest development is that Shruti, who is playing the titular role of Sangamithra, has backed out of the project due to date clashes. A source in the know reveals, “The project was supposed to commence by August, but it has now been pushed to the end of October. Shruti was really excited to be a part of Sangamithra, as it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a period film with substance. But she will kickstart her new Hindi film in October, for which, she had given her dates before Sangamithra came her way. Also, she has Sabhash Naidu, which is another promising project in her kitty. Since everything is shifted, she couldn’t allot dates for Sundar C’s project as her schedule is packed.”
The source also adds that the actress feels extremely bad to not be able to do the project. “Knowing it was a massive undertaking and a long commitment spanning over two years, she knew the importance of her training, a comprehensive script and proper date calendar. She, in fact, hired and started training with one of the best combat trainers from April, to make sure she was ready in time for shoot.
Despite her enthusiasm and commitment to Sangamithra, she has had to give the film a miss since she had not received a proper bound script nor a proper date calendar,” the press statement said. Currently, she is gearing up for Behen Hogi Teri’s promotions, prep for Sabhash Naidu and her musical collabrations. After the hullabaloo created at Cannes, this news has come as a shocker to the team.
