Trailer well-received in Japan, says director

Mirchi Shiva and Priya Anand are coming together once again after Vanakkam Chennai for a film titled Sumo. Shot extensively in Japan, it is directed by Hosimin, a former assistant of Shankar who earlier made Aayiram Vilakku with Sathyaraj and the Bharath starrer February 14.   

Shiva, besides essaying the lead, has written the screenplay and dialogues for the comic- emotional flick, a first for him.

The director says “Sumo is a sport-comedy caper, which talks about the lives of sumo wrestlers. It is more about friendship and love. Sumo wrestlers are adorable, cute giants and loved by everyone. I was attracted to the traditional Japanese sport after watching a commercial featuring wrestlers.”

The film features real-life Japanese sumo wrestler Yoshinori Tashiro.

Informed sources reveal that there are scenes related to Rajinikanth in Sumo, since the Superstar has a huge fan following in Japan. VTV Ganesh and Yogi Babu play crucial roles.

The movie has ace Rajeev Menon as the cinematographer and music by Nivas K Prasanna. The trailer, which was released in Japan, was well received and was watched by 28 lakh people, reveals Sumo’s maker Isari Ganesh of Vels Film International.
