In the current scenario, it is difficult for a film to continue its run in theatres after the release. The situation would be worse in the case of off-beat movies or movies that have no big names in it. They will be yanked out of theatres a few days after its release citing lack of a minimum number of viewers.

However, in a rare case, Aalroopangal, a movie directed by C.V. Premkumar, starring Nandu, Maya Viswanath, and Sudheer Karamana in the lead roles, has managed to complete 56 days. It is a family drama and hartal plays a significant part in the story.

“It was not an easy task. We had to put a lot of effort to achieve it,” says the director. “Finding a theatre for our movie and retaining the position for a few days is more difficult than releasing a movie. Nowadays, to reach our target audience, we have to publicise our craft through various promotional activities. But, the worst part is that the movie will be gone from the theatres by the time we start doing promotion,” adds Premkumar.

Aalroopangal was released on January 8. In the first week, there were three shows. It got reduced to one show from the following week. “This is not just the case of off-beat movies. Not many people walk into theatres these days. It may be because they will get to see the movie on television soon after release. In Thiruvananthapuram, we promoted our movie through our friends circle.  It was screened first at Nila theatre and later at Kalabhavan. Those who have watched the movie liked it, which makes us happy,” says Premkumar who has started working on his next movie Appunte Kannadi.
