Kochi: In a first, a movie which flopped at the box office is all set to hit the theaters once again based on the positive reviews it got from the social media. Makers of the movie Guppy will re-release it this month in three major cities in Kerala. Guppy became an overnight Internet sensation after the same was ‘made’ available in torrent site. Thousands downloaded it for free and started posting positive reviews one after the other. They even created memes supporting the movie. Actor Tovino who starred in the movie, was forced to ask his fans whether people will watch it if the movie was re-released.

“We are planning to release it once again. At present the plan is to release in the theaters in Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram,” said Mukesh Mehta, the distributor of the movie. “We are getting tremendous response from social media, especially on Facebook. We thought of releasing it after the reviews,” Mr Mukesh Mehta added. “Unfortunately, the youngsters are downloading it from Internet and the DVD sales are low. We thought it would be better if we release it once again for a larger audience,” Mr Mukesh added. We have two dates in mind. October 14 or October 21.

Tovino’s Facebook post received mixed reaction as many asked him to re-release it while others asked him not to trust those who post reviews online. “I just wanted to know the reaction. there were reports that the movie flopped because of poor promotional activities. Let's see how many really turn up and appreciate good movies,” Tovino said over phone. Guppy was released on August 5. According to sources it didn't even get the printing and publicity charges and the satellite rights were also meagre.
