From the day its trailer was launched, the short film Ezhamathe Chaaya Chithram has been trending on social media. There have been many posts praising the 15-minute-long film. The short film written and directed by Shine Mohan is out and it is an excellent watch because of the way it’s been made and the twist in the end. The film, which is produced by Mallika Vijayan, features Leona Lishoy, Vimal Vijayan and Babu Annur in the lead.

The film was officially launched on YouTube by actor Asif Ali. Shine says Asif really liked the film and appreciated the work. Actor Miya had also come out with lots of praises after watching it. In three days since launch, the short film has amassed almost 60,000 views. “I have been working on it for the past one-and-a-half years. Most of that time, I spent for writing the script. And the amount of positive feedback from every quarter makes me feel that I have spent my time really well,” says Shine Mohan.

The trailer had promised a thriller and the final cut has delivered it.  “I wanted to make it realistic and the crew that I worked with helped me in it. Actors, the cinematographer, editor, the music director, all are already established professionals.”  The film begins with the sound of raindrops and a policeman talking with a priest (Babu Annur), which seems like a crime scene.  The colour tone and lighting from the first sequence is well- balanced, setting the mood for something intriguing that is about to happen.    In the next scene, Shayari (Leona Lishoy) meets with the priest and reaches out for some information about a guy and his house.

At steady pace, the film carries on to more details about the guy they are talking about, who is an artiste.  The film ends with a climax that could puzzle a viewer’s mind. “The climax can be explained in two ways actually. But it is according to the perspective of the viewer. I wanted to throw in something that they can decide,” adds Shine.   The director says he has already started the works of his new script, which will be a comedy thriller. “I am planning to make a full-length movie and the pre-production works are in progress. Though I have not decided on the cast and crew, I am planning to have one of Malayalam’s young stars in the lead role,” Shine shares his dream.
