Going with the flow
Achayans director Kannan Thamarakulam says that his movies just happen without a plan.
Two-film-old director Kannan Thamarakulam is gearing up for his next release Achayans which has Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Unni Mukundan, Sanju Sivaram and Adil in the lead roles. His earlier movies Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare and Aadupuliyattom had garnered good comments from family audiences.
Kannan points out that he reached the subject through Jayaram, the hero of all his movies so far. “It was during the production of my previous film that Jayaramettan told me about a subject written by Sethu. When I heard it, I felt it was an interesting one. That's how I zeroed in on Achayans as my third movie,” he says.
Kannan hasn't been focusing on a single genre. When his Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare was a family entertainer, Aadupuliyattom was a horror flick. Under what genre would Achayans come? “It's a fun thriller, which has humorous as well as thrilling elements in equal importance,” he says. The film is slated to hit the screens the coming Friday.
Why Jayaram again? And Kannan says there is no specific reason for casting Jayaram in his third movie too. “It was not a planned move. We have been sharing a close bonding since our first film.
“It was during the production of that film I narrated the subject of Aadupuliyattom to him and he was the one who helped me to go ahead with it. Achayans also happened like that. But Achayans is not a sole hero subject. Each and every character has equal importance in the storyline," he says.
What will be his next project? “I have a few subjects in my mind. But I have not finalised my next. Ever since my first film, projects were just happening instead of being planned. As of now, I have no plans,” he sums up.
