Mudhugauv director Vipin Das, inspite of not having any formal education, has managed to make a good film with a newbie cast.

He neither joined a film institute nor assisted any master directors. But he was sure that he could make a good film which would not disappoint viewers. Vipin Das did not step into the realm of films without proper preparation. It was after trying his hands on advertisement films, short films and music albums, that Vipin called the shots for his first feature venture Mudhugauv, which is getting rave reviews.

Not just Vipin, the film’s writer-director but the hero, the heroine and the cinematographer are also newcomers.

“That was a big challenge. Apart from a few artistes like Vijay Babu who essayed the antagonist’s role Rambo, most of the actors and technicians are newcomers. More than that, the main discussion topic during the release was Assembly elections. In fact, there was no big crowd at the releasing centres for the first two days. But two days later, people started coming to theatres after finding out that the film is a good entertainer,” says the director.

Vipin says it is the treatment which makes this film a unique one. “I know the basic subject is very simple. That was the first criteria in front of me while planning this. I wanted to keep my audience entertained, with a small uncomplicated subject. But in the treatment, I have tried my best to come up with something different. I am really happy to say that the viewers have accepted this.”

It was around four years ago that he got the basic thread of the film. “My initial plan was to make a thriller based on a real incident. Though I started the pre-production, owing to certain reasons I had to drop that project after two years. Luckily, the very next day, I got a new thread which became the film Mudhugauv. It was while waiting for my cousin - actor Arun, at a teashop near Kowdiar junction in Thiruvanathapuram that I got this idea. In fact, the title Mudhugauv was also fixed on that day as the film completely revolves around a series of kisses.”

It was after editing out several scenes during the scripting that Vipin entered the production stage. “I hope I can make another film with those edited out scenes, which would come out as a sequel of Mudhugauv,” he sums up.
