Kerala actor deposes in abduction case, biggies in loop
Police looks to resume investigation into case after new findings surface.
Kochi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a prominent actor here recorded her statement on Friday as part of restarting the investigation based on the “new findings” of the involvement of more persons in the case. The other day, the cops had sought the court permission to record the statement of one Jinson, a prisoner who shared the cell with the main accused Pulsur Suni, before the Aluva magistrate. He had reportedly told the cops that Suni had told him of the involvement of more persons and their role in the conspiracy behind the abduction of the actor on February 17.
A team led by ADGP B. Sandhya took the actor’s statement at the Aluva Police Club to assess the veracity of the “revelations” and whether she suspected the involvement of any person in the conspiracy. “We expect the magistrate to record Jinson’s statement in a day or two. A probe will also be held on the basis of the retrieved call records of the main accused’s mobile phone. We are continuously monitoring some of the suspects in the case even after the chargesheet was filed before the court,” sources said.
Jinson was an accused in another case lodged by the Nedumbassery police, but shared the prison with Pulsur Suni. Though Jinson reportedly claimed that Suni had told him about the involvement of an “influential” person in the conspiracy, the cops are yet to find any strong evidence against him. On April 18, the cops had submitted the chargesheet against seven persons who had direct role in the attack with Sunil Kumar Surendran aka Pulsar Suni arraigned as the first accused. However, the police are still probing into the conspiracy angle.
