Neermathalam Poothakaalam: a tribute to Madhavikutty

As the title suggests, the movie Neermathalam Pootha Kaalam is a tribute to the eminent writer Madhavikutty, who celebrated love in life. However, it is not a biopic. It narrates the story of a girl named Aami and her lovers since Class X.
According to director A.R. Amal Kannan, it is his admiration for the writer that inspired him to give the film that title. He also says that the movie follows a new pattern in storytelling and theme. The director and writer (Anaz Nazeer Khan), who are friends, have formed the backdrop by drawing elements from their experiences while studying at the University College in Thiruvananthapuram.
In their opinion, this female-centric movie questions the social norm that hails men with multiple lovers as heroes, but such women, as bad. The movie also boasts of having many women working behind the camera, too.
Makeup is by Mitta Antony. Anagha, Anupama, S. Chandra and Nahum Abraham have written the lyrics, while Anagha S. Lal and Anjali Vijayan take care of costumes. Cinematography is by Vipin Raj. The movie hits the screens on June 28.
