It’s often said that starting young brings with it a cartload of benefits. And, it really worked wonders in Amrapali Shindhe’s case. At 15, she got her first big break — Being the first person to sing Basava Vachanas in folk rock.

There has been no looking back ever since. She appeared on the first season of The Voice India, where she went on to find a spot among top 14 in Shaan’s team. All set to release her latest single towards the month end, Someday — the space between us, she tells us more...

“I’ve been doing covers since the longest. However, as an artiste you begin to grow out of it, and that’s when I decided to rustle up singles on my own. Someday... is reflective of my current state of mind — it’s slightly different and sheds light on how you perceive topics like love, discovering yourself and your sexuality...,” begins Amrapali.

Her first album Basava In you turned out to be a stupendous success. One thing led to the other, and she soon found herself doing an opening set for Arijit Singh’s concert in Bengaluru for a crowd of 7,000 people.

The 21-year-old dropped out of college to pursue music full-time. But, she’s pretty ahead of her game. And, she owes it to the support she garnered to pursue music early on. “I’ve always wanted to pursue music, and I’m glad I made the choice pretty early,” begins Amrapali, who’s been a part of several bands and live acts. With genres like soul, jazz, pop and rock falling under her repertoire; Amrapali adds, “I think performing music is a very therapeutic act.

And, the day I realised it, I realised how important it is to support other women in this endeavour too. And, that is how I decided to be a part of Strisvara, which is a project aimed at bringing women musicians from across the world under one roof. The idea was to get women from different walks of life to join hands and be a part of this.”

Music aside, Amrapali loves catching up on the simple joys whenever she gets the time. “I love catching up on sleep whenever I can. And yes, I love reading poems too.” Speaking of her musical influences, she says, “I’m mostly inspired by people around me. I love how there’s so much to learn from everyday things and people.”
