Walking runways and posing for photographs is nothing new for Krutika Singh Rathore. For those who follow Hyderabad’s modelling scene, she is a well-known face. She may have started her modelling career back when she was in college, but Krutika always made it clear that it was acting that interested her more. So her dream came true when she recently nabbed an opportunity as the lead actress in a popular Telugu rom-com television serial titled OK Jaanu. The show has been receiving rave reviews from the audiences, with everyone praising Krutika’s performance profusely.

“I found out about this serial from my friend Kaushal. He told me about the auditions and I thought it was a great opportunity. The auditions went on for two to three days. Later, I got a call saying that I was selected,” says Krutika.

The story of the sitcom revolves around the romance between Krutika’s character Jaanu or Janaki and Ramu. While Jaanu is from an affluent family and everyone’s favourite, Ramu comes from a middle class family. Talking about her acting experience, Krutika says, “The shooting has been going on since three to four months. The character is fun-loving and just like me, so I am having the time of my life portraying her. But I have also realised that acting is no easy job and I am getting to learn so much every day.”

Acting can be completely different from modelling and is even more challenging owing to the different kinds of emotions, dialogues and actions that the actors have to put forth every single day. So was Krutika ever nervous during her scenes? “I have been modelling for more than three years and my journey of acting began just three months ago. I have realised that acting needs more patience and effort. But I was never nervous performing in front of people. The cast and crew are amazing,” she says, adding that she has not given up modelling either.

Many upcoming actresses face opposition from their families for wanting to pursue a career in the entertainment and fashion industries. So were Krutika’s parents supportive when she told them that she wanted to be an actress? “What you put in, is what you get. So I surround myself with positive energy. More than me, my family encouraged me to get into acting. My family in the US, too, watch the serial every day at 5.30 am in the morning!” reveals the young actress.

And what about other acting offers? “I am currently working for Guru Films my producers and directors have been supportive. I am going to play Jaanu for a long time. However, I am also looking at some other projects,” she concludes.
